Ludlow: A Revolution in Grassroots Integration

Thesis

As the civil rights movement began to sweep the nation in the late 1950's and 60's, a courageous, diverse group of Shaker Heights residents made it their responsibility to stem the tide of white flight and achieve racial balance in their Ludlow neighborhood; their bold strategy not only redefined this exclusive community and set a standard for further integration throughout the city and in the public schools but also was one of many grassroots events in the nationwide civil rights movement that helped establish rights and access for all.
